A Guide to San Pedro de Alcántara | Malaga – Costa del Sol :
Officially part of Marbella and within a stone’s throw of Puerto Banus, San Pedro de Alcantara (known simply as San Pedro) is a far quieter and sleepier resort than its glitzy neighbours. Favoured by property buyers in search of a family atmosphere, San Pedro is popular with both holidaymakers and permanent residents.
Where is San Pedro?
San Pedro is just west of Marbella whose centre is a 10-minute drive away and within minutes of Puerto Banus. The journey to Malaga Airport is easy via the AP7 toll motorway (San Pedro has direct access) and takes around 35 minutes.
Why buy in San Pedro?
San Pedro has plenty to offer the property buyer and its advantages include:
Location: Its proximity to Marbella and Puerto Banus is one of the main attractions because San Pedro allows you to live in quieter environment but with everything a busy resort has to offer on your doorstep. This location also means property prices are lower than in Marbella itself, although not as cheap as those found in nearby El Paraíso or in Mijas Costa to the east of Marbella.
Low-density development: San Pedro remains much as it always has been – a small town where everyone knows each other – and life moves at a much slower pace than it does in Marbella. This tranquility is mirrored in the town planning and most of the properties in San Pedro form part of low-rise buildings in open spaces. This is especially true in the seafront complexes in the development known as Nueva Alcántara between San Pedro proper and the beach. Here, you’ll find low-rise apartment blocks and townhouses set in wide boulevards. This low-density design adds to San Pedro’s tranquility.
Good amenities: The town has plenty to offer in terms of amenities including a newly-built bus station offering direct connections to Malaga Airport; an attractive central boulevard that doubles as a large park and leisure area; excellent sporting facilities such as indoor pool, several tennis clubs and proximity to a long list of world-class golf courses; medical and dental clinics including state-run health centres; and a choice of international and Spanish schools. San Pedro beach boasts a blue flag and lies within easy reach of the town.
Family-friendly: San Pedro is very much a family-centred town and as such, a favourite with holidaymakers with children and with young local families. There’s plenty for children to do – the new central boulevard is particularly appealing – and many activities in the town cater specifically for families. This family-friendly atmosphere means properties in San Pedro have excellent buy-to-let potential within the family holiday market particularly for those who want to be within walking distance of restaurants and the beach.
What can I buy in San Pedro?
If you prefer to be part of the town centre, San Pedro offers traditional Spanish townhouses and flats with the advantage of being within easy walking distance of all amenities. Nueva Alcántara concentrates most of the town’s new builds with a choice of apartments, often with superior finishings and high-end communal facilities, and townhouses built in traditional.
