Why buy in Mijas?

Mijas has charmed foreigners for decades – some of the first arrivals on the Costa del Sol in the 1960s chose to make Mijas their home – and continues to attract buyers from all over Europe.

Village life: Although it has grown considerably from its tiny origins, Mijas has kept its traditional Andalusian atmosphere and its village charm. Its narrow streets are lined with typical whitewashed houses and the village is home to several interesting monuments such as the tiny bullring and church whose grounds have exceptional views of the coast below. Mijas, nationally famous for its donkey-taxis, ranks as one of the most visited villages on the Costa del Sol. Despite the morning crowds, life moves slowly in Mijas and this tranquility is one of the aspects that most appeals to residents.

Panoramic views: The village’s mountain top position affords panoramic views of the coastline below and on clear days vistas stretch from Malaga to Cabopino with the Moroccan coast on the horizon. Mijas mountain range lies to the north of the village and provides an attractive backdrop. Many properties in Mijas enjoy these views that are classed among the best on the Costa del Sol.

Good amenities: Amenities are surprisingly good in the village where there’s a range of small shops, restaurants and services such as banks and a post office. Mijas acts as the administrative headquarters for the municipality that includes the much bigger Mijas Costa, home to thousands. As a result, the village has an excellent year-round calendar of events, including the international fair and the renowned Mijas Blue Festival.

Good location: Mijas combines a tranquil lifestyle with proximity to all amenities and attractions. The village offers a quieter atmosphere than that found in other parts of the Costa del Sol yet the busy resorts of Fuengirola, Marbella and Mijas Costa are just a short drive away. This combination is particularly attractive to holidaymakers looking to make the most of all the Costa del Sol has to offer but without staying in the midst of a busy resort.

What can I buy in Mijas?

The village itself offers a selection of typical Andalusian townhouses, some of which require restoration (reflected in their price) while others are new build. Outside Mijas, there are a number of developments with apartment, townhouse and villa properties. These include Mijas La Nueva to the west of the village, an attractive complex made up of small-sized villas and apartments, which particularly appeal to foreign buyers; Las Lomas de Mijas, situated on the ascent to Mijas and consisting mainly of large villas; and Buena Vista whose fine views live up to its name and is home to townhouses and large villas.
