Area Guide to La Zagaleta, Costa del Sol, Spain – one of the world’s most exclusive residential estates.
Many consider La Zagaleta to be Europe’s most exclusive private residential development and certainly the onsite amenities, tight security measures and multi-million property prices live up to this reputation.
Where is La Zagaleta?
This exclusive development occupies the entire surface of a large foothill (900 hectares in total) on the road to Ronda, about 13km from the coast. Puerto Banus and Marbella are both just a short drive away and Malaga Airport takes around 50 minutes to reach.
Why buy in La Zagaleta?
Like its neighbour El Madroñal, La Zagaleta is all about stunning surroundings and total privacy, two of some of the advantages that come with owning property in this ultra high-end development.
Spectacular surroundings: Mediterranean forest made up of pine trees and cork oaks covers the entire estate at La Zagaleta where there are probably more wild boar and deer than residents. Views are particularly stunning with the peaks of Sierra de las Nieves providing the backdrop and the Mediterranean and the Strait of Gibraltar offering a unique vista to the south.
Absolute privacy: Onsite security is tight at La Zagaleta and the gated and guarded entrances ensure residents enjoy total privacy and the chance to get away from the outside world. Discretion rules at La Zagaleta and little is known about actual owners of property here, although there’s much speculation that they include famous faces in the political and business worlds. The only thing that’s known for sure is that they’re all multimillionaires.
Exclusive onsite amenities: As you might expect on an estate where the cheapest property costs several million euros, onsite amenities at La Zagaleta are second to none. Owners may make use of the heliport and enjoy facilities at the riding club and the two golf courses found here.
Magnificent property: Immense mansion-villas on vast plots are the main characteristic of property in La Zagaleta. The estate was originally designed for a several thousand properties, but this blue print was overruled in favour of considerably fewer. When all the plots are built on, there will be 420 properties on the estate, although there are currently only around 230. There are few restrictions on construction other than a maximum of two storeys and the requisite for roofs to be pantiled in typical Andalusian style.
What can I buy in La Zagaleta?
As long as money’s no object, you can probably buy one of the world’s most exclusive and luxury homes here. Prices for La Zagaleta properties start at several million euros with the cost of some stretching far beyond this.
